About the HOD

Sai prasad Shetty is the Head of the Department of Mass Media where he combines academic leadership with a strong commitment to industry-responsive education. His work centres on designing meaningful learning experiences with particular interests in content strategy, curriculum development, and experiential learning. Over the years, he has played an instrumental role in shaping the department’s academic direction, fostering industry engagement, and building platforms that enable students to engage with contemporary media cultures and professions. He has been closely involved in conceptualising initiatives such as the Jai Hind Media Conclave, strengthening collaborations with practitioners, and curating a range of workshops, guest lectures, and skill-based learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Drawing from a professional background that spans content development, communications, research, and development-sector consulting. He brings an interdisciplinary perspective to media education. His approach is guided by the belief that media education must cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability, preparing students not only for evolving careers in communication and media industries but also for meaningful engagement with society at large.

The Department of Mass Media at Jai Hind College offers the Bachelor of Mass Media, a top-notch undergraduate program that equips students for careers in journalism, broadcasting, advertising, public relations, and digital media. Taught by experienced professionals, the program blends classroom learning with hands-on practice using advanced media lab and equipment. Students gain real-world experience through internships and a curriculum that spans media ethics, digital storytelling, and more. Graduates leave as skilled, ethical communicators ready to make a mark in the media industry. Throughout semesters, students work on projects & assignments that are especially curated to apply their theoretical knowledge and develop skills suitable for the real-world challenges in the world of media.

Research Methodology Workshop (2018-2019):

Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nilesh guided students on research paper writing techniques, assisting in the preparation for the Annual Student Seminar.

Field Visits:

SYBA students, accompanied by Dr. Archana, visited the CSMVS museum on 8th August 2018. They participated in interactive sessions focusing on the Indus Valley Civilization, Ashokan inscriptions, early Indian art, and conservation techniques, including discussions with craftsmen and conservators.

Community Outreach:

SYBA Foundation Course students, led by Dr. Archana Mishra, visited Ashadaan NGO and undertook internships with various NGOs such as Dignity Foundation, Akansha, and Vatsalya Trust, as part of their community outreach projects

Gender Sensitisation Workshop:

On February 18th, 2019, the film "Boys Who Like Girls" was screened, followed by a session on gender issues and consent by MAVA and TISS. Students created documentaries on relationships and consent, with some participating in MAVA's gender sensitization events.

Annual Student Seminar (2019-2020):

Held on 27th-28th January, 2020, with the theme "History from the Lens of Indian Cinema." Students presented papers at a RUSA-sponsored conference at Xavier’s College, Mumbai, on 11th February, 2020, with selected papers published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Students Achievements

Students of the History Department have excelled in various competitions, winning numerous accolades from 2018-2023. Achievements include top positions in intercollegiate fests like Ruia College's Mudra and Juhunjhunwala College's Hysteria, with awards in poetry, fashion shows, debates, and creative writing. Notable successes include peer-reviewed research paper publications and consistent victories in online and offline events, making the department proud. For three consecutive years, Jai Hind College won the Best College trophy at Ruia College's Mudra Fest.
