History of Department

As a programme, BMS or Bachelor of Management Studies started by University of Mumbai in 1999. Jai Hind College was one of the first colleges in Mumbai to have started it and from that moment, it is constantly at the forefront in the sphere of BMS.

As an undergraduate Management programme, which is looked up to by the students as a repertory for MBA as well as Entrepreneurial training, BMS’ curriculum was very contemporary and its emphasis on practical aspects of Management along with theory was well appreciatedOn the academic performance front, the students of BMS have made the College proud. From the year 2004-05 till date, Jai Hind BMS students have been securing ranks in the University examinations.

Activities of the Department

  1. Curricular: Presentations, Case Study Sessions, Seminars, Workshops, Book and Film reviews
  2. Co-curricular: Summer Internships, Industrial visits, Team Building activities, Guest Lectures, Non-Credit Courses, Interdisciplinary Projects
  3. Healthy Practices: Orientation: Every year, the students of First Year BMS are given an Orientation at the beginning. It is on the nature, contents and outcomes of the BMS Programme in Jai Hind College. The purpose is to make the students aware of the expectations, listen to their expectations and to create a meaningful dialogue.
  4. Parents -Teachers Meeting: This activity generally takes place in the second semester. It is conducted for the parents. The First Year students organize the entire event and conduct it. In a way it gives the opportunity to parents to check upon the promises made during the orientation.
  5. Graduation: Every year the College at the hands of a prominent alumnus felicitates the students who have graduated and completed the programme.
  6. Extracurricular: “Talaash” is one of the most significant part of the BMS programme which is an inter collegiate Management festival organized by the BMS students and for the BMS students of other colleges.
  7. Industrial Visits: The College believes that along with academic enhancement there needs to be practical learning too. Thus the students in all three years are encouraged to go for outstation Industrial Visits. Some of the reputed Industries that the student have visited in the recent years include; Bajaj Auto, HMT Tractors etc.
  8. Non Credit Certificate Course-Non credit certificate Course on International Relations conducted by department of History & Microsoft Excel- Industry Perspective conducted by industry Expert

Activities and Achievements 2012-13


Scholarships: 6 BMS students were awarded the prestigious, most sought after Sumitomo scholarship.

Academic Honors: Exceptional results were put forward by two students Radhika Kajaria (85.33%) and Sanaya Sawkar (84.17%) securing 4th rank and 9th rank respectively in the University of Mumbai.

Internship & Placements: Owing to consistently impressive University Results, and the experiential learning BMS has 100% placement record. A lot of reputed companies like Google, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Jones Lang LaSalle, Kotak Securities and AC Neilson and many more offered placements to the BMS students. In BMS program it is mandatory to do summer internship for a period of 6 to 8 weeks Moreover, many students also interned in the summer at various organizations such as HDFC, KPMG, Motilal Oswal, E&Y, DSP Black Rock, Edelweiss, RBI, Star TV and so on.

Industrial Visits: The FYBMS students participated in the Nature Trails, which focuses primarily on ice breaking and group building sessions. SYBMS students also got the exposure through their Industrial Visit to Chandigarh, Shimla and New Delhi where they visited factories like HMT Tractors, Minchy Foods etc. The TYBMS students went for an Industrial visit to Silvasa and visited IMP Power Ltd.

Business Plans: In the Entrepreneurship cell B-Plan competition, the second position and the third position was bagged by TYBMS.
