History of DepartmentHistory of Department: The Department of Commerce of Jai hind College was set up in the year 1980.Since its incorporation the department has played a pivotal role to shape the careers of commerce students in the various fields of fields of Management and Finance. The department offers two applied component papers ie Advertising at the second year B.Com class and Export Marketing at the final year B.Com class. The department further offers three papers in Business Management at the final year B.Com class as a subject of specialization. Year on year, majority of our students obtain a first class at the Mumbai University exams.On an average commerce students of Jai Hind College have a consistently higher rate of passing percentage as compared to the same at the University level. Information about the Department: The department is committed to increase the quality of teaching and creating the interest of students to pursue commerce as field of continuing interest in future. The department enjoys a coordinated link with the industry wherein the students have a spontaneous interaction with the experts so as to get a better insight into the subjects. There is an active involvement of the students from the arts and the commerce faculty wherein they get the adequate exposure to the various events and competitions at the intercollegiate and intercollegiate level. The members of the department also actively participate at the various college level, state level, national and international level seminars to enrich and upgrade the latest concepts in the field of commerce. The faculties of commerce also undertake the various minor and major research projects at the University and UGC levels so as to make the teaching more relevant and learning oriented. Continuous efforts are made by department to practice and nourish innovative and participative methods of teaching like role playing,case studies, debates and the management games.Department also undertakes the analysis of various advertisements in award winning festivals like Cannes. To further add to students interest the department also provides a compulsory 20 marks project for advertising at SYBCom and for Exports in TYBCom, this integrates the aim of observation based learning and improves the value addition Activities of the Department: Mr S.N.Iyer Participated in various workshops and seminars at University and Collegiate level.Actively associated with Commerce Association since its inception. Mrs Hasina Sayed Presented a paper on ‘ Entrepreneurial Culture ’ at the International Research seminar on Entrepreneurship at the D.Y.Patil Institute of Management & Research in Nov, 2008. Mr Ashutosh Saxena Presented a paper on ‘Recession & Human Resource Mgmt,challenges & strategies’in International Conference on Recession at Mumbai University on 18th December,2009. Ms Nital Kothari Participated in various workshops and seminars at University and Collegiate level.Actively associated with Commerce Association to develop innovative methods of Teaching Highlights: -Department is commencing M.Com course from June 2010.
