Department Profile
|
|
|
|
The
Department of Physics was established in the year 1949. The
department has qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic teaching
as well as non teaching staff. It offers physics major at
undergraduate level. The courses offered are Classical mechanics,
Statistical mechanics, Electronics, Electrodynamics, Relativity
and Cosmology, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Solid State and
Nuclear physics. The department has well equipped laboratories
with computing facilities.
An
additional facility of a departmental library is an asset
for its teachers and students.
The
annual feature of this department is "PHYZEX", a Science exhibition
which encourages innovative ideas and creativity amongst the
students of the college. Field trips to prominent research
institutions (TIFR, BARC, HBCSE, etc), industries (SEEPZ,..),Observatories
(GMRT,NCRA, etc) are undertaken to motivate the students.
Talks by eminent scientists and industrialists are organized
to enrich and enlighten the staff and the students and keep
them up-to-date with the latest trends. Incentives in the
form of merit certificates and cash awards, to students scoring
the highest marks in Physics at the first , second and third
year levels are given.
Some
of staff members are associated with Post Graduate teaching
and research activities in premier institutions.
Training
is imparted to non-teaching staff within the college and they
are encouraged to participate in relevant workshops organized
by theUniversity of Mumbai.
The
department boasts of a healthy environment, conducive to learning
