Department Profile

Philosophy is taught at FYBA (Paper 1 - Moral Philosophy), SYBA (Paper 2 - Indian Philosophy and Paper 3 - Western Philosophy) and TYBA (Paper 4 - Problems of Philosophy), Paper 5 - Philosophy of Religion and Paper 6 - Yoga and its Applications) levels. At the TYBA level we offer ony three papers. Three teaching methods are used viz., Transmissive approach i.e., the lecture method; Generative approach i.e., through a process of inquiry, exploration and discovery of the subject; and the Transmissive approach i.e., to extend it from the classroom to the world. Also snipets from magazines and newspapers are read and discussed. Each year students are taken to the Santacruz Yoga Centre for a one-day practical yoga workshop.

-February 1st 2006, workshop organised by SIES College, Department of Philosophy jointly with board of Studies regarding TYBA syllabus and paper setting.

March 20th and 21st 2006, National Seminar on "Sartre and De Beauvor - A 100 years later and almost : Philosophy, Literature and Politics" organised by Department of Philosophy, University of Mumbai.
