| HISTORY
OF THE DEPARTMENT :

|
The department of Microbiology was established
in the year 1981 and from the year 1984 the students were
provided with the option of Microbiology as a major subject
at the T.Y. B.Sc level. More than 500 students have done their
undergraduate degree from this department .This subject is
in great demand and a number of students passing out from
our department have completed their ‘Masters’ and ‘Doctorate’
degree. The staff under the headship of Dr . M.T. Pandya has
been in the department for more than 25 years. This department
is actively engaged in research activities beneficial to industry
in the fields of water and waste water management , control
of microbial fouling and corrosion in the re-circulatory systems,
Bio-remediation studies useful in EIA studies , advanced oxidations
using UV radiations, Microalgae as an alternative to coal
and Bioaugmentation studies to improve the efficiency of biological
treatment.

Young Scientist Talent’s search in 2006 - 2008.
• Prof. Ashok Wadia –Honored as a Guide for the
Intel Science Talent Discovery Fair held at Banglore University
in December 2005

Department
has successfully organized Seminars/workshops at the national
level
• Workshop on ‘Role of Microbiology in ‘Modern
waste Water Treatment’ for industries as a part of Golden
jubilee celebrations on 13th and 14th March 1999.
• Workshop cum Seminar was on ‘Environmental Biotechnology’
in Waste Management., 14th and 15th February 2003.
• One day National Seminar on Biological Sciences in the
21st Century on 27th Nov 2004.
• Workshop on ‘recent Trends in Diagnostic techniques’
on 15th and 16th March 2007

Credit Course
|
The
Department of Microbiology offers a Credit Course which is
for three years. Students are given credits for various assignments,
participation in seminars, summer training and practical project
work.
