Departmental Profile

The department consists of an accomplished & dedicated faculty with a passion for the subject. They have good communication and teaching skills with the ability to handle subjects ranging from Commercial Maths , Pure Maths to Computer Programming.

System Analysis & Programming in C and Java & networking is offered as the Applied Component paper to the students of T.Y. Math and T.Y. Physics.

The faculty is involved in research, PG teaching , syllabus framing and training at different courses at graduate/ undergraduate level and Olympiad training at the high -school level. They are also on the Examiners'/Paper setters' Panels & syllabus committees of Mumbai University.

The Mathematics Association - the co-curricular wing of the department - organizes various activities as an extension of class room teaching. These, over the years, include inter-collegiate exhibitions , quiz contests and lectures on topics in pure and applied mathematics by eminent mathematicians from T.I.F.R., I.I.T. etc. In 2006-2007 the Department launched a credit course program in which students of F.Y. and S.Y.Bsc enrolled. The proposed topic for the credit course for the year 2007-2008 is 'Recurrence Relations'.

Academic Excellence:Seminars, Workshops & Publications.

Prof Ms L.Ganesan's research paper "Strongly Discrete modules " - has been accepted for publication in "Communications in Algebra ", Taylor & Francis, USA. Along with this, her paper " Strongly Discrete modules" and the paper on UCC modules have been incorporated in the book titled Lifting modules in the series Frontiers in Mathematics published by Birkhauser.

Prof Ms L.Ganesan was awarded Ph.D. degree in Mathematics in 2005.

Prof. S.T.Kulkarni's paper titled "Envelope model: Data access from anywhere" was accepted for presentation at IPSI-2005, Montenegro (Sept 24-29, 2005). The second paper titled "Spatio-temporal schema model and carrier and courier mobile query processor for spatio-temporal databases" was presented at the international conference on "Urban Planning and Environment Strategies and Challenges" organize by Elphinstone college on Jan. 30, 2007.
