The Literary and Debating Society is one of the most vibrant committees in the college. It began its illustrious journey way back in the year 1948 when the college was just established. We organize four events a year. The first is a workshop on communication skills. The workshop is always conducted by an eminent personality from the field of theatre films or advertising. Our second event is the Juniors v/s Seniors Debate. It acts as an ice breaker for the juniors who have just entered college. The third event is the Staff v/s Students Debate. Our last event of the year is the Kewalramani Public Speaking Competition. Apart from these events the LDS also sends talented students for various inter college competitions where they have performed admirably.

Event Details :

1) Communication Skills Workshop (concluded) - For our communication skills workshops over the years we've had some remarkable personalities such as Mr. Harsha Bhogle Mr. Boman Irani Mr. Alyque Padamsee etc. This time on the 17th of July 2008 the Literary and Debating Society organized an interactive workshop with Mr. Alyque Padamsee in the A.V. Room. The topic for the workshop was 'Ideation-A key to Success.' As is the norm at all LDS events this one too was houseful. The event was attended by the Principal and some of the staff members. Our chairperson Dr. Kamal Jadhav felicitated Mr. Padamsee while the secretary Bhavini Merchant welcomed Mr. Padamsee and the audience and Shreya Bhargava the joint secretary proposed the vote of thanks.

Mr. Padamsee spoke about how just a simple idea can make a world of changes to our life. He highlighted the fact that our creative juices are not really put to work unless and until we are faced with a problem and that we should use our creativity to the best of our ability to solve our problem. Mr. Padamsee motivated the students to think laterally and out of the box. He shared with us his experiences in the world of advertising and gave very apt examples to illustrate his point.

He also showed video clippings of a few of his advertisements and explained how out of the box and lateral thinking can spruce up even the most serious and boring topics. The audience was held by his oratory skills for over an hour at the end of which there was an interactive session where the students asked Mr. Padamsee questions and he answered them with his trademark charismatic style. All in all the event was a roaring success.

2) We will be holding auditions for the Juniors v/s Seniors Debate on the 1st and 2nd of August 2008. Interested students are requested to come prepared with a one minute speech to the Literature Room at 12 noon. Last year for this debate we were graced by the presence of our esteemed judges Mr. Rajkumar Hirani Mr. Kunal Kapoor and Miss Anu Menon.

3) For our third event the Staff v/s Students Debate we will be announcing the audition dates soon. The judges for this event last year were Miss Konkona Sen Sharma and Mr. Cyrus Sahukar.

4) For our last event the best speakers in the college come together to compete for the prestigious Kewalramani Public Speaking Trophy in the Kewalramani Public Speaking Competition. Last year we had Miss Pooja Bedi Miss Nauheed Cyrusi and Mr.Denzel Smith as our judges.
